Student Involvement and Leadership - Southern Utah University

Through competitions, performances, appearances, and volunteer events, the SUU Waukeenyans and Cheerleaders have become an integral part of Cedar City’s community. You’ll see the Cheerleaders and Waukeenyans and performing at athletic events throughout the year as well as promoting school spirit at events on SUU’s campus.

The SUU Spirit Squad is made up of the cheer and stunt team that consist of a highly skilled coed cheerleading team that partner stunt, build pyramids and tumble. The SUU Waukeenyans is a precision dance team that is recognized on a national level. The SUU Dance Team holds an annual Dance Showcase highlighting all forms of dance from jazz to hip-hop to lyrical. The Spirit Squad participates in several community service projects throughout the year. They have read with elementary children, put together hygiene kits for third world countries, and have visited and performed for the elderly.

Why you love getting involved with Waukeenyans:
I love to perform at the games and cheer for our team. We’ve all formed a sort of sisterhood and I get to do what I love every day. Dancing is my passion and performing makes it even better. It’s such an adrenaline rush and just a great way to be involved. Being on a team makes me feel like I’m part of something bigger.

Things I like to do:
I’m a nature girl at heart and always will be. I love to kayak, snowboard, wakeboard, mountain bike, camp, and go swimming. Whenever I get the opportunity I try and play as often as my schedule allows.

Favorite moment at SUU:
One night a bunch of us went up to some cave in the canyon late at night. We took glow sticks with us and broke them open and splattered them all over the cave and ourselves. We played hide n’ go seek for hours just laughing and running around.
