You’ll feel right at home with SUU Outdoors if you like to hike slot canyons, rappel, climb red rock, snowshoe under moonlight and kayak the Colorado River.
The Outdoor Center also rents equipment, facilitates the campus climbing wall and has a resource center to research and create your own trip, with books, maps and other materials.
If you’re interested in outdoor leadership experiences, you can assist in managing the Center, plan trips, lead a group through the Ropes Course, and, of course, participate in a wide variety of adventures and special events.
Why you love getting involved with the SUU Outdoors Center:
The greatest part of the department is taking people out and helping them learn and experience something new. I love the chance to teach people a new skill and watch as they start to really get into it (start buying their own gear, setting up their own trips, etc.).
Best moment at SUU:
The best memory comes after one of the worst. I wrecked my truck and had to replace the front grill, bumper and the hood. We ended up flipping the hood upside-down and bolting a swivel chair to it, and then pulled it around an empty field with my newly refurbished truck.
Favorite thing to eat in Cedar City:
My favorite Cedar food would have to be a homemade ham and cheese sandwich with just enough Miracle Whip and mustard lightly toasted on the George Forman Grill.
